Wow! What a week-end! The MAWP 2007 1st Annual Surfathon was a HUGE success! Thanks to the die-hard surfers who were willing to risk the urban runoff in the ocean and hit the waves anyway, we had a minimum of two surfers in the water at all times for all 24-hours of the Surfathon! They, and all of the volunteers and supporters that came out to show their love, get MAJOR thanks and big hugs! Everyone who was there can agree that the energy was intensely positive.
The rain was pouring down at 11:30 on Saturday (22nd), however the clouds parted and the sun came shining down at 12:00 on the nose, as soon as the Surfathon was set to begin. The soulful drum circle began and the 1st shift of surfers went out into the water, including 9 year old Gordon Macgruder, who insisted that nothing could stop him from surfing his shift and insisted, “could I please have my MAWP jersey…I want to surf!”.
The Auction Gala dinner was a fantastic party and big success. Thank you to all of our sponsors and donors who helped make the event such a hit!!! And thank you to all of those who came out to surf, volunteer, perform and support!! Please keep checking in on this website for more updates and photos to come!
